Mrs. Haake’s sixth-grade GATE/seminar humanities/art students at Pacific Beach Middle School celebrate the culmination of their study of ancient cultures with “The Festival of the Nile.” Students invited their families to the festival, where they dressed in Egyptian costume and presented posters on various Egyptian topics. • Mission Bay High School tour takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 8 to

9:30 a.m. from the school library. Check in at the school office. Learn about the educational and enrichment opportunities for your student at MBHS, including the prestigious international baccalaureate program. Meet the IB coordinator, administration, parents and teachers and take a tour of the school.

• Mission Bay Cluster All-Schools Fair takes place on Saturday, Jan. 26 from noon to 3 p.m. Learn about all six Pacific Beach neighborhood schools -- elementary through high school. Visit informational booths, enjoy activities for kids and music performances. Learn about the different programs offered at each school at presentations by representatives from each school.

• MBHS Alumni Association, FOPBSS and MBHS invest in the MBHS Gym. Many thanks are due to the Mission Bay High Alumni Association, FOPBSS and MBHS for making the gymnasium sparkle with new paint, new state-of-the-art scoreboards and 30 modern sports banners. Over the holiday break, the gym was painted in preparation for the hanging of the new banners. Together with the new scoreboards and polished floor, the gymnasium looks spectacular. Thanks to all who helped make it happen.


• Join PB Middle international baccalaureate educators at the annual International Baccalaureate Math and Science Night on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Families with fourth through eighth graders are welcome to enjoy math and science games and interactive learning experiences.

• Jan. 14-18: PB Middle International Baccalaureate World School will celebrate Peace Week. Events include a student reflection retreat; The Great Kindness Challenge and Pledge; peace-related readings and music; 1970s dress-up day; a giant peace sign photo and more. Thank you to the New Childrens’ Museum, PB Kiwanis Builders Club, PB Middle Yearbook Club and SDUSD Race Human Relations for supporting students and this fun event. • Coffee with the principal in Spanish on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:45 a.m..

• Movie Night at CPJMA, featuring “Brave“ on Friday, Jan. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Free admission.


PBE will have this month’s Family Fun Night Restaurant Fundraiser at Mamma Mia Restaurant, 1932 Balboa Ave. in Pacific Beach on Thursday, Jan. 17, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thank you to owner/PBE mom Cinzia Mezzetti for your continued support.


• Sessions students got a chilly surprise on Jan. 14 when a hill of snow was delivered to the campus. Each grade had 45 minutes to play or sled. Special thanks to the Hynson family for making the winter wonderland possible.

• Sessions students will be selling cookie dough this month. Funds raised will support music, library, art and Spanish programs at the school. Contact if you are interested in supporting this fundraiser.


Friends of PB Secondary Schools meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at the PB Middle School library. Guest speakers include representatives from SDG&E Energy Challenge and the World Language Institute.
