On the hardwood, the boys basketball team came into action this week for head coach Marshawn Cherry with a record of 19-4.
According to Cherry, key players continue to be Rejean Boogie Ellis, Ronnie Latting, Jaymarree Norton, Michael Barcia, Savaugh Davis and Andre Scott.
Sitting with a number one ranking in San Diego County, Mission Bay lost this past weekend in overtime to third-ranked Foothills High.
“I think we got distracted with being number one the past three to four weeks,” Cherry said. “It will be good to be able to focus and lock in on winning league for the first time in 28 years. I think the loss was at a good time to refocus us.
The Bucs, under head coach Jorge Palacios, entered play this week with a mark of 6-2-5.
According to Palacios, some of the leading players to date are sophomore Lina Rodriguez (leading scorer), junior starting center midfielder Alex Fisher, junior holding midfielder Cat Griffiths and sophomore starting center back Andrea Clemente.
“We’re playing a tough league schedule and have to continue to play our possession-based style while focusing on our team-first mentality and improving on consistently finishing chances,” Palacios commented.
