Originally from the Bay Area, Turner was working the corporate grind in San Diego before her move to Australia. There, and in Bali, she began to pursue both her extensive 200-and 300-hour yoga teacher training.
Turner, a Pacific Beach resident, says that her love for movement developed early when she was 5-years-old taking ballet lessons. After participating in gymnastics, cheerleading and other forms of dance throughout her life, she was eventually introduced to yoga when she was 25-years-old.
So what sets her classes apart? A philosophical approach to the ancient practice available for all levels of practitioners. From novice to experienced, Turner’s class truly provides something for everyone.
"Yoga is not just for the fit and flexible,” said Turner. “While this is one of the amazing results if you practice consistently, it is not the goal. There are so many life-altering techniques this practice teaches us about breathing, moving and controlling your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, which can be valuable to you in your business, career and personal life. These life tools are what I want to help spread to as many people as possible, the same things that helped me find true freedom and contentment."
The style of classes in Turner’s repertoire is by no means limited, entailing vinyasa flow, Hatha, Tantric, Yin, restorative, family and kids, SUP and corporate yoga classes. Since Riffs Studios and Bird Rock Yoga have been in the area for years, Turner says she tries to schedule her classes during offset hours from those studios.
“People ask me ‘Why would someone want to do yoga in a gym?’,” said Turner. “The truth is, that once you become comfortable in your practice, you can really do yoga anywhere. While there are the obvious physical benefits, the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of yoga ultimately lead to optimal health.”
Currently, Turner has been offering 30 to 45-minute “lunch” classes at FS Athletics on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturdays. She also holds classes for those looking to re-center after work, at 5:30 p.m. On Saturdays, she holds her practice at 10 a.m.
