Crown Point Junior Music Academy (CPJMA) will celebrate its roots with a 65th anniversary celebration the week of March 18, with a bigger celebration on March 22 that will include a morning parade for students and faculty, an assembly after the lunch hour and a carnival after school for CPJMA students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the Pacific Beach community.

At the carnival, guests may expect to find family-friendly activities, food, music, a display of memorabilia pertaining to the school’s history and a silent auction to help raise funds for the school. The school is reaching out to alums and encouraging them to participate in the celebration. Crown Point School opened on Jan. 5, 1948 and was, at that time, symbolic of San Diego’s growth.

Built at a cost of $200,000, enrollment at the school has ebbed and flowed during its 65-year history. In 2008, the school converted to a music academy and was renamed Crown Point Junior Music Academy and soon implemented the Suzuki Violin program, growing from 115 children to more than 280.

CPJMA is best known for its rigorous academics, increased attendance, bridging the language and cultural gaps and a music program that has cultivated students who appreciate the visual and performing arts.
