San Diego Police investigating death in Mission Bay Park

On Friday, Nov. 17, at 11:30 p.m., the San Diego Police Department Communications Center received a call regarding a person on fire in the field adjacent to 5200 Pacific Highway.

An off-duty California Highway Patrol Officer was driving west bound on Pacific Highway when he saw the person on fire and stopped to render aid. San Diego Fire Rescue also responded to assist. Fire personnel pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

The San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team responded to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. They requested the assistance of the San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit. Homicide Detectives also responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident.

The decedent has not been identified.
