Country Day led by a score of 26-23 as the two teams headed to their locker rooms at halftime. After intermission, the Torreys went on a mini-run, outscoring the Panthers 6-5 behind the play of senior Sage Burmeister and junior Jordan Poland. Baskets by Burmeister and Poland helped LJCD take a 32-28 edge early in the third quarter.
Unfortunately for Country Day, Horizon would put together a 25-9 run of their own down the stretch to close out the contest.
Poland led the Torreys (8-9 overall, 1-3 in Coastal League play) with 16 points, while Burmeister had 11.
The Bishop’s School Knights went down to the Santa Fe Christian Eagles 77-66 in another Coastal League game at Santa Fe Christian.
Senior Jamere Jones led the Knights (6-10 overall, 1-3 in Coastal League play) with 36 points, while freshman Sahil Sheth had 10.
In Western League action on Friday, the La Jolla Vikings got a big 53-41 win over the Lincoln Hornets at La Jolla High.
Senior Zach O’Hara led the Vikings (12-9 overall, 3-4 in Western League play) with 21 points and seven rebounds.
O’Hara was followed in the La Jolla scoring column by senior Daniel Farkas (nine points, six rebounds), senior David McColl (seven points, five rebounds, four assists), senior Tyson Youngs (six points, three rebounds), senior Matt Needham (six points), senior Eric Brown (two points, four rebounds), junior Nick Skala (two points) and senior Jackson Smith (four rebounds).
In another Western League game on Friday, the University City Centurions defeated the Scripps Ranch Falcons 40-30 at UC.
Junior Michael Sohikish led the Centurions (7-11 overall, 2-4 in Western League play) with 10 points.
