Locals take back the beach

Windansea Beach was the site of locals taking back their beaches from tourists on Sept. 3 for the annual “Tourist Go Home” end-of-summer beach bash, sponsored by Headhunter Suncare products.

The party saw a sizable turnout as beachgoers enjoyed the sun, surf — courtesy of the remnants of southern Mexican hurricane weather — and the strains of local musical group Neveready.

Photographer Don Balch captured a rare moment where sea lions appeared to be waving in sync to onlookers at the Cove.
