MUST HEAR

Few local performers may be as driven as Chris Leyva, who hosts Porter’s Pub’s new open mic night on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. Obstensively a rock ’n’ roll guitarist, Leyva is also a tireless supporter of local music. He’s built a rep as a producer, promoter and the entrepreneur behind the Black Cherry Music Group. But for this event, Leyva will be in acoustic troubadour mode, while playing the role of emcee at the newest open mic night in San Diego, sponsored by the So Cal Showcase television program. Leyva recently released a new album, “1957,” but prolific to a fault, with almost two dozen albums released since 2001, look for him to debut material from his next opus at this show.

Chris Leyva: Thursday, Sept. 27, Porters Pub, UCSD. 9500 Gilman Drive. 7 p.m. All Ages. No cover.www.porterspub.com
