Fans of California’s original punk scene won’t want to miss a performance from Cherie Currie at Brick by Brick on May 3. Though she has had a solo career of note, it’s her time in the late 1970S as singer of the Runaways that’s cast the biggest shadow in her life. Currie rarely ever performs live, so this is a special bill put together by opener Roni Lee, who has a Runaways connection herself. Lee penned the group’s hit “I Wanna Be Where The Boys Are.” The night’s lineup also includes Get Rockin’ and Stone Temple Pilots tribute band Core. The night promises to be an evening of premium tunes. A 2010 Runaways biopic saw Currie portrayed by actress Dakota Fanning, but nothing tops the visceral thrill of hearing the band’s 1976 classic, “Cherry Bomb.” Even 37 years after the fact, as a rock ’n’ roll template, it’s hard to beat.

Cherie Currie performs at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 3 at Brick by Brick, 1130 Buenos Ave. 21 and up. $15. www.brickbybrick.com
