The jazz world lost another of its greats with the passing of pianist Cedar Walton on Aug. 19. To help celebrate his memory, Dizzy’s will host a special tribute concert on Sept. 5. An incredibly prolific artist, Walton leaves behind a discography that includes more than 120 albums, not including compilations and reissues, as well as a wealth of artists that he inspired. The performance will feature bassist Rob Thorsen’s Quartet with Gilbert Castellanos (trumpet), Joshua White (piano) and Brett Sanders (drums). Whether you go to pay tribute to a great musician or simply to enjoy a night of top-flight jazz, this evening promises to be special.

A Tribute to Cedar Walton: Thursday, Sept. 5, at Dizzy’s, 4275 Mission Bay Drive. 8 p.m. $15.
