On a recent extended cruise along the Baja coast, this reporter and fellow cruisers depended on Capt. Pat Rains’ newly revised “Mexico Boating Guide” for essential local guidance and information updates. The constant question was, “What does Pat’s book say?”

At the San Diego Sunroad Boat Show on Harbor Island, anyone contemplating a Mexico boating adventure will benefit from Rains’ advice during her 3 p.m. seminars on Saturday and Sunday. Her new program focuses on commuter cruising — that is, leaving the boat docked in Mexico while traveling back and forth from the U.S. Rains’ Mexico and Central American cruising and Mexico weather guides will be available for purchase at the show.

Rick Krug, APS Marine’s dockside yacht-repair manager, will conduct noon seminars called “Confessions of a Bilge Pump — What Really Goes on in an Engine Room.”

At 1:30 p.m., Mike Gunning of Electric Yachts will focus on “Power Management for the Green Sailor” and how to reduce a vessel’s carbon footprint.

All seminars repeat Saturday and Sunday in the Sunroad Pavilion.
