Though a date has not been confirmed, the annual Alumni Game is held one day each year. For many former Pointer baseball players, it is a chance to take the field to relive their days of glory on the diamond, a chance to swing the lumber, field some grounders — and likely pay a painful price later.
These veteran Pointers will play against what will likely remind them of their former selves in the person of the 2014 varsity team and new head coach Joe Radovich.
The game signals the start of the season for the current varsity and, ironically, may signal the final appearance for some alumni.
The game first came about decades ago as a contest between the Pointers’ 1973 CIF championship team and the newest Pointers. Now, 41 years later, many members of the 1973 team are pushing 60 years of age.
