Wrong-way driver causes crash at Gilman exit

A wrong-way driver caused a crash near the Gilman Drive exit of the I-5 in La Jolla in the early morning of Tuesday, June 10. There were no serious injuries.

Emergency dispatchers began receiving calls at about 3:15 a.m. regarding a vehicle traveling north in the I-5 southbound lanes. The vehicle struck another driver near the Gilman exit, near the UCSD campus, about 15 minutes later, according to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page. The auto had driven the wrong way for about six miles, with accident closing the freeway for about 15 minutes.

A woman was later arrested on drunken driving charges.
