Rip currents and higher-than-normal surf are expected along the San Diego County coast today, with waves up to seven feet.

A swell out of the south headed toward Southern California prompted the National Weather Service to issue a beach advisory. The swell will generate elevated surf along San Diego County and Orange County beaches, with isolated sets to seven feet possible on southerly facing beaches, according to the service. Strong and dangerous rip currents are reportedly likely through the period as well.

The currents could cause dangerous swimming conditions, the service warned. Beachgoers were advised to obey posted signs and to swim near a lifeguard.
