On Sunday, Feb. 25, at 10:49 a.m., the San Diego Police Department Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a shooting in the rear parking lot of 3675 Midway Drive.

The first police units to arrive found a 27-year old white male lying on the ground in the parking lot. He was suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper torso. Officers provided immediate medical aid to the victim. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the course of the initial investigation, officers obtained information that led them to check a residence at 3000 Upas St. for a Hispanic male acquaintance of the victim. Due to the seriousness of the incident, a SWAT call-out was initiated and the residence was secured. The Hispanic male was not located at the residence.

San Diego Police Homicide detectives were called to the scene on Midway Drive and are currently investigating the incident. The preliminary investigation has shown that the victim is a recent acquaintance of the suspect and is described as a Hispanic male approximately 40 years old.

The victim has been identified, but his identity will not be released pending family notification.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
