Additional arrests in Pacific Beach homicide

At approximately 1:47 a.m. on Dec. 29, 2018, the San Diego Police Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding a possible shooting inside a residence in the 2300 block of Wilbur Avenue. Patrol officers arrived on scene a few minutes later and found a 44 year-old male inside, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The officers began administering CPR until relieved by paramedics. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries at 2:30 a.m.

Investigators from the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are handling the investigation. The victim was identified as Marcantony Mendivil. During the course of the investigation, information was developed that led to the arrest of 37-year-old Freddy Sosa and 50-year-old Paul Weinberger. They were arraigned on Jan. 3.

The investigation has been on-going and has led to the arrest of two more suspects in this case. Both suspects, 24-year-old Carlos Yslas and 27-year-old Pedro Ramirez, were already in custody on unrelated charges. They were re-arrested for the murder of Mendivil and will be arraigned on Feb. 22 at 1:30 p.m.

As this is an issued case, the San Diego Police Department will make no further comment regarding the investigation. All inquiries should be directed to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.
