A sailor arrested in the May 4 death of a woman in the Midway District will have his preliminary hearing on July 19, 2021, a judge set on Dec. 15.

Marquise Tyree Wisher, 28, waived his right to have a speedy hearing concerning the death of Rosa Jaco, 32. She was strangled in a room at the Good Nite Inn, at 3880 Greenwood Street, according to court records.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Jeff Fraser also set a Feb. 16 readiness conference.

Wisher has pleaded not guilty to murder and additional charges of inflicting corporal injury and assault to his wife in a separate incident, said Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Matzger.

The other incidents with his wife occurred on March 10, according to the charges.

San Diego Police arrested Wisher on June 16 with help from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in Imperial Beach.

Wisher appeared on a video screen from jail on Dec. 15 and the attorneys also appeared remotely because the court is partially closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Wisher remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility on $1 million bail.
