NBC 7 San Diego/KNSD on Nov. 12 announced consumer reporter Bob Hansen has decided to retire, after more than 30 years helping San Diegans. “Consumer” Bob’s last day on-air is Nov. 18.
Hansen has been a favorite of viewers for more than a quarter of a century. He’s alerted viewers to everything from sales to scams. Hansen also led the NBC 7 Responds team since it was formed in 2016 and helped save viewers more than $1,000,000.
“Bob hasn’t just helped San Diego consumers. He has mentored countless journalists entering the business,” said Greg Dawson, vice president of News at NBC 7. “As a leader in the journalism community, he has encouraged us all to maintain the highest standards for ethics and quality reporting. And he has done it all with a smile, a laugh, and flair for showmanship.”
Hansen started in the news business as a copyboy for the Houston Chronicle and later as a freelance reporter for National Public Radio. He's been in television for 38 years reporting in Missouri, Florida, Kentucky, and San Diego. Along the way, he's received many local and national awards.
“We congratulate Bob for his many years of service to our team and his commitment to our community,” said Todd Mokhtari, president and GM at NBC 7. “We look forward to celebrating Consumer Bob and his accomplishments with our audiences on NBC 7.”
