They were in the [Hervey/Point Loma Branch] Library on election night "” 643 of them. Despite front-page headlines stating that "Voters reseat most incumbent planners" and a spate of nasty letters and biased commentaries, the community showed up for the second year in a row because they DO care. The people of this community care about truth, respect, good manners, and balanced dialog regarding the future of this remarkable community.
Eighty-seven people showed up at the Ocean Beach [Community Planning Board] election; 643 turned out for the Peninsula {PCPB] election. None of the incumbents got more than 50 percent of the vote. That WAS the message from the voters. The deck was not stacked. There was plenty of press created by the incumbents. Front-page headlines, letters, editorials, and fliers rife with scare tactics and exaggerations passed out among neighborhoods.
The community spoke, loud and clear. One of the best examples, perhaps, of why the community turned out in such numbers was yet another letter by an incumbent who was voted out last year. How despicable and pathetic to rant on and label the P3 as "McMillan's Joseph Goebbels (propaganda minister for Nazi Germany)""¦ . That's a little much, isn't it?
When you ask what happened and where the voters are, they went to the library and voted for civility. The good people of this community, Cynthia, are for all the things you speak of, they're just tired of the infighting and power trips.
One more thing.
I believe you are a Realtor, Cynthia. How does one determine who are the evil ones and who are the good ones? Most of the Realtors I know are hardworking, taxpaying citizens who care very much about their community and about preserving the quality of the neighborhoods.
