The city worker I spoke with seemed to believe there was a problem with the roof and the city engineer felt it was in danger of collapse. Any competent contractor with some 1” plywood, beam material, 6x6 wood columns and some miscellaneous tie lumber could make the building safe and usable in a matter of days, at least until the summer season is over.
Some years ago, they put an entire second story on the Fashion Valley Mall while the first level of the mall continued to operate. I think if that was possible, the city should be capable of temporaily mitigating whatever concerns that engineer had so that San Diegans and the visiting tourists don’t have to put up with this completely unnecessary inconvenience. What a picture of beautiful Ocean Beach: a condemned, fenced-off beach restroom building right on the beach that the tourists come to enjoy.
Someone needs to step up and remedy this stupidity.
